This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧵

"why does restaurant food taste better than food cooked at home"

The cook does not care if you live or die and uses salt and butter accordingly

People seem to think they can appease bigotry with sacrificial compromise. The thing about bigotry is it's like a fire. The more you feed it, the stronger it gets, and the more it will rage out of control and consume you. Feeding it is the WORST thing you can do.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

I wish people would vote in every election like R*publicans coming into power could cause great harm. Because that's what happens every fucking time.

It's my birthday today. 🍃

I'm grateful to everyone who has stuck around. Freelance has been busy and it's only because of these communities and the amount of support they have shown me over the years. So thanks.

I like this solution to Tolerance Paradox as a social contact instead of moral principle (it's still one of course but operative as social contract) to help stop the push to the right 'just want to discuss' baloney.

If I remember, I'll thread tomorrow about why specifically I think young men are suffering so badly from this reactionary strain.

Preview: It's to do with broken promises, and lies taught very very young.
I'm firmly in the "we don't know yet" camp, but

Young first-time voters breaking for Trump—young men 60-40 while young women go 55-45 for Harris—is some bleak shit.

& I can't help but look at young men at 60-40 and think: that's Joe Rogan, AsmngoId, the frothing anti-DEI ragers.

...That's gamers.

It will be very easy with time and hindsight to criticize choices the Biden-then-Harris campaigns made but the Trump campaign was so ludicrously bad and ridiculous that you have to wonder if doing anything differently would really have mattered.
