Removal from the Roll of Peerage might deprive someone of the precedence and forms of address attaching to a peerage, but legally that person is still a peer. And removal from the roll does not stop a prince being a prince.
Prince Andrew CAN renounce his peerage without an Act of Parliament
Reports have suggested there is no easy way to remove or renounce the title of Duke of York - but a little-known mechanism could effectively do so easily and immediately

The very fact that MI5 - and the security services generally - are accountable to our domestic courts flows from the ECHR decision of Malone.

One of many ways that Convention has benefitted our legal order.

There is no need for a moral panic about the UK's welfare system.

Far from perfect but recent discourse is nuts

Spending is controlled, not spiralling

Worklessness is near record lows

Really enjoyed this piece.

"Lawyers and academics therefore find themselves in the difficult position of ... trying to reason people away from a view or belief they never reasoned themselves into to begin with. We are bringing facts to a vibes fight."

I hate to sound like some ancient old throwback, but I don't recognise the country I am living in.

When did racism become acceptable again?

Why do we have to rely on ageing retired Engand fullbacks for guidance on the misuse of flags?

Nothing in the future is written in stone - the right could change policy again, as indeed could the left, which has been more anti convention rights than the right in this country, historically.
Given that the right usually wins elections in the UK, it seems likely that, whatever balance it takes, the UK will now be leaving the ECHR.

This is a shame.

A good indicator for how well things are going that the Conservatives have returned to their traditional scapegoat. What a sad state for the party and UK democracy.

This is the weird thing I'm having to check myself for in the tone of tomorrow's newsletter, is conveying my sense of 'yeah, I mean...I'm not *surprised*!' We have to have extra security for book festivals!' sense of despair rather than accidentally seeming bored.
If your kids have to do "active shooter"-style anti-terror drills at their schools in suburban London (as mine have), why on earth would you be shocked?
One reflection talking to other Jews today is how unshocking this is.

Numbing, upsetting, scary but not shocking. We all knew it was coming. Given the enormous rise in antisemitic incidents in recent years, it's a surprise it hasn't happened more often.
