This is, I think, the single greatest problem with the media's coverage of the last nine years of US politics.
Democrats are broadly assumed to be the adults in the room, and as a result, Democrats and Republicans are held to *wildly* different standards of behavior by the media.

Someone on X pointed out the scant coverage of Ron Johnson saying 9/11 was an inside job. The press assumes Republicans are crazy and malevolent, so when they say crazy stuff it doesn't get covered. But they assume Dems are competent & sane, so any data point to the contrary is treated as big news.

Corporate Media destroyed Clinton over her document security & retention policy because she ran her own email through personal server. Musk has a bunch of non-government people accessing (stealing?) personally identifiable information on every person & company in US for unknown (nefarious) purposes.

Most people do not think street executions of those they dislike are good. That voices to the contrary are loudest on social media platforms is largely a reflection of how such platforms are divorced from popular sentiment and algorithmically incentivize extremism and outrage.

Out of roughly 153 million votes cast in this election, the presidency was decided by 230k across the three states of Wisconsin (30k), Michigan (80k) and Pennsylvania (120k). That's 00.15%.
This remains an extremely closely divided nation. Any agenda viewed as extreme is likely to face backlash.
