Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

THE LOWDOWN is a real fuckin pleasure, shot in dusty tans and grays and rich, jewel-bright greens. It's a little bit FARGO, a little bit THE BIG LEBOWSKI. Hawke is great at the head of a frankly unbelievable cast.

I'm sure this has been mentioned but, back in 2003, ABC's first choice for the late-night job was Jon Stewart.

But ABC felt Stewart was too "topical"/political, especially for the network of Roseanne and Home Improvement. So they went with Kimmel. And here we are. www.nytimes.com/2002/11/03/m...

Even assuming an LLM stumbled into a revolutionary scientific discovery, it would only be an untested hypothesis. A lack of hypotheses is not science's problem - it's $$ for the research to test those hypotheses that's sorely needed. And, that's being cut to fund LLMs.
I just now realized that some guys think that fancy predictive text can make new scientific discoveries but that doesn’t even make sense.

Cuomo doesn't actually want to be mayor. He's bullying his way to a presidential nom. We'll all suffer if he's allowed this charade.
Just learned from @katiehonan.bsky.social that Andrew Cuomo didn’t show up for his scheduled interview with the New York Editorial Board this morning. (That’s the independent org of veteran journalists trying to fill the gap left by NYT edit board.)
