This is a pretty stunning admission, he doesn't appear to know how group insurance works. Toyota/GM don't buy insurance, employers of that size are self-funded. They pay United or Aetna for admin services, but they pay for the actual health care themselves (with some catastrophic/stop-loss coverage)

ACA plans are not uniquely expensive, most people simply get insurance through their employer and most of the cost is hidden from them. They also get a massive, costly tax benefit since those are deductible expenses for the employer and not taxable to the employee.
