Coming soon : Peregrine Watch in the square.
Pinned
This morning, we ringed our four youngsters under licence. Biometric data was taken, and from this, we believe that we definitely have one female and probably three males. Ringed 3JB, 3LB, 3NB, and 3SB- all appeared lively and healthy.
All four of our youngsters have now fledged. 3SB was the last to be confirmed & was seen leaving airspace around the church yesterday. The three males all fledged around Wednesday & Thursday last week. None chose to do it while anyone was watching & so we dont know exactly when.

💥This Friday 10am - 2pm it won't just be peregrine watch in the square - it will be fledge watch! 💥

With all 4 juveniles being seen out on the ledge exercising their wings, throughout this week we can expect them to get stronger and more adventurous.

The chicks are around a week old now and growing fast.
Our first peregrine watch since hatch day is today, 10am until around 2pm in Red Lion Square.
Come and say hello if you are passing. The All Saints' pay as you feel community coffee bar will also be open between these times.

The 3rd chick hatched at around 2.30 am this morning, but the first confirmation by visual was at 7.30 am when the falcon left to retrieve 'breakfast' - the tiercel then tried to sneak a peek at them but was quickly evacuated by the falcon returning.

Chick 2 hatched just 5 hours after chick 1 at 06.22. The falcon can be seen cleaning up the membrane linking the chick to the egg.

Chick alert 😊
The first chick has hatched!
At around 01.22 (00.22 webcam clock) the falcon moves to reveal the egg and chick which she then rather clumsily appears to almost tread on, freeing it from the shell. A loud cheeping can be heard soon afterwards and further limited views a little later.

Another intruder this morning. This time, a juvenile female. Seen off quickly by the tiercel, the falcon was on standby if needed. She was well aware that there was a 'situation' occurring & left the eggs to screech from the sidelines. Update & photos to follow.

Yesterday morning, one of the 2024 brood, orange ringed 3FB, returned to pay his parents a (very short!) visit. After landing on the tower, 3FB was soon expelled. Last seen being pursued across the meadows by a protective and disgruntled falcon. 📷 Stuart Wilson (we were happy to see 3FB though!)

We have 4 eggs this morning! The falcon laid her 4th egg at 04.39, 55 hours, and 4 minutes after egg 3.

Egg #3 has arrived. Unbelievably, the falcon has laid at almost the same interval as between the first and second egg. 54 hours and 26 minutes. 🥚1>2 was 54hrs 24) There looked to be a glimpse of the egg at 21.36 as she laid it and a slightly better glimpse a few minutes later.

The Stamford falcon laid her second egg this afternoon, just over 54 hours after the first egg.

The tiercel had his first look at the egg. He tried a bit of bribery to get to take a turn to incubate. That didn't work!

The tiercel must think that the first egg is imminent. Just after 7am he brought the falcon breakfast in the scrape and then checked out the nest cup to see if incubation duties were required.

The pair were observed copulating yesterday. There were also a few visits by both to the scrape. After a short display, the falcon spends nearly an hour and thirty minutes scraping and contemplating the season ahead 😉

Chitter chatter from the tiercel this morning, looking for the falcon. Both visited the scrape and well.. scraped.. and scraped, then scraped some more. Video at increased speed.
Our webcam is available to view inside the church, and the links on YouTube and the web page will be reinstated soon.

The tiercel visited the scrape several times today, calling for the falcon. She kept him waiting until late this afternoon.

Recently the falcon has been scraping vigorously in both scrape turrets, although she currently seems to favour the scrape last used in 2023. The tiercel has joined her regularly for chatter and display. If successful this will be their 5th year of breeding together.
