I just realized—as I hoarded my book away from anyone remotely interested in it—that I am just as afraid of success as I am of failure. The difference is, you only fail if you give up. But if you never try, you’ll never succeed.

I queried someone recently with an author-illustrated picture book manuscript, and I got rejected. The problem I have is that the form rej is acting like I’m only an illustrator, making it seem like I wasn’t paying attention. Do I leave it alone? Or bring it to their attention?
