So moved by this beautiful video by the @arbordayfoundation (CLICK VIDEO 👇), capturing a freezing planting event, our largest volunteer turnout, the day before NOLA's 1st ❄️❄️ in decades. Their support meant the world to us + the Lower 9 community. Moments like these remind us why we keep going. 🌳⚜️💚

Despite $1.04M in losses, SOUL is still standing. But barely.

We’ve raised $25,609 toward our $40K spring goal— just $14,391 to go. A $16K match 2x every gift.
Help us plant trees and protect New Orleans.

Welp. 💔 *Just* discovered a $40k fed funding reimbursement we were promised was terminated. That was tree-planting money. As in, shade-and-clean air-and flood-protection money.

Help us show 'em who's boss. Chip in and keep the trees (and the hope) alive: soulnola.org/donate/ 🌳💸

Immensely grateful to the @apnews.com for covering our story. The federal funding freeze is still very much in tact, despite federal judges ordering the release of the funds. Please- call your lawmakers daily. #GetUpStandUp #SOULSquad
$75 million was awarded to plant trees in places that badly need them. In anti-DEI push, that's over

Thank you to WWNO and Eva Rose Tesfaye for telling this story! The domino effect of the federal funding freeze (City Funding) /termination of funds (Arbor Day) gravely impacts jobs and our local economy. We will keep you posted. Stay tuned.

UPDATE: The City has stated we can continue with our project for now, but funds are officially frozen. Our other IRA funds, granted through the Arbor Day Foundation, remain frozen with no updates on when—or if—they’ll be restored. We have lost a month + there is time for just one more planting.
Trump’s Funding Freeze Raises a New Question: Is the Government’s Word Good?
Companies that get federal grants or loans usually sign a legally binding agreement and depend on getting reimbursed. The new administration has upended that expectation.

Today we were supposed to plant 100 trees, but we planted 3. 80% of our budget is inaccessible due to the funding freeze.

What can you do? Call and write your lawmakers EVERYDAY. Make noise. Protest. Stand up. Don't get tired or sad. Rest. Reserve your energy. Stay strong and keep fighting.

Thank you to @newsweek.com for sharing the story of how the fed funding freeze has impacted our operations. There are thousands of similar stories across the country about orgs and projects whose important work has come to a grinding halt.

We've used EJ Screen for years to gather crucial data about our partner nhoods re income, flooding, heat + pollution.

Today, EJ Screen is simply gone. The funding freeze is still in effect and ZERO info given to the USFS. Our ops are paralyzed. If this isn't reversed, our doors close 3/31. #RESIST
