Acorn Electron / BBC Micro - Chuckulus - WIP
Maybe I'll try a thread instead of quote posting stuff !.....
Fixed the flashing egg and bouncing off ladders bugs - thankfully quite simple stuff....
Time for some proper level design, as some are just too damn hard/impossible (even without the DUCK !) 🙄

Happy Friday everyone! Fancy a brand new #ZXSpectrum game to get your teeth into this weekend?

Well let me help you out: welcome to Castle Rooj!

Roojliek is a classic ASCII rogue-like for the 48K ZX Spectrum, can you survive long enough to escape?

Ready to röck your Chuckie Eggs at @computinghistory.org.uk this weekend. That poor little Spectrum being dwarfed by the bigger machines is my original machine so be nice to it 😄

New level shambles testing (didn't say I was any good at Chuckulus !) 😅

Another level in the bag - looks easier than it is!

Trying to address the difficulty progression - which actually has the DUCK introduced earlier than level 9!

Level:
1 - Easy, a few hens
2 - Harder, a few hens
3 - Easy, DUCK only
4 - Harder, hens and lift
5 - Hard, hens
6 - Hard, DUCK only
etc...

Any MSXperts about? Is there such a thing?

I’ve tried three (3) different machines (Sony, Sanyo, Toshiba) and they all have the picture slightly offset to the left.

Not an issue for the weekend, I’m just puzzled cos it’s clearly either a) LCD issue or b) VDP issue.

Acorn Atom now has a turbo mode, AtomMMC2 SDcard adapter and all the classic games work!

Apart from Chuckie Egg which seems to think it’s in joystick mode 😆 #retroGamingFest25

Arses. It works fine in ‘slow’ mode but there’s a lot of snow on the screen as was the case with most Atom games.

Some more "trying things out" 😀 The dev environment now has stars and the scan screen shows the locations of things. Plan is to get some of the gameplay elements tested out and then start porting the code over to 6502.

Current compile time - about 25 seconds..... takes ages, really eating into my day every time I want to test something new !

...... Let's rewind 40 years and compare compile timings...... !

Again, total respect anyone who developed on original hardware back in the day !

It's just two weeks to go! Come meet the developers - meet the people who coded for all our favourite systems back in the day, and many who still do - and can teach us all a trick or two! Let's look at all the platforms ...
