Computers used to scream every time they connected to the Internet. They knew. They tried to warn us. We did not listen.

I'm tempted to briefly abandon my total refusal to engage with AI because this sort of implies that turning purple is something they just do sometimes.

So,as a little thought-experiment, tell me something about the United Kingdom that works well and is actually quite impressive. I am not trying to sound like some boosterish politician. I just genuinely believe that making people believe that all is lost is a convenient pretext for shady characters.

👇 genuinely don’t understand why people are unable to comprehend “don’t get AI to do something for you if you can’t understand whether it has produced the wrong answer”.
this seems like an incredible way to get yourself into huge amounts of trouble with several tax and immigration departments simultaneously

This infuriates me no end. 6 Music would be hugely improved by removing these tacky hourly tabloid-level headlines. At the very least have an optional news-free 6 Music stream where the news bulletin is replaced by a random Half Man Half Biscuit track.
I rant about this a lot but I can’t for the life of me understand why BBC 6 Music News gives a daily update of how many people crossed the channel in small boats yesterday

From a news values perspective alone, it makes no sense

Gremlins 2 and its fourth wall-breaking genius
Joe Dante’s pointedly cynical Gremlins 2: The New Batch contains some of the most ingenious fourth wall breaking ever conceived.

According to this flat-out terrifying article, 500 million people are using ChatGPT. And it’s in schools now. This is so dangerous, and governments are miles behind on any kind of meaningful regulation. In fact, most of them seem to be in thrall to it.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

No reason to leave the credit out of an image post, imo.

There’s plenty of space to say that the bright blue dot is Earth seen from Saturn, and also credit the folks with the attribution they requested.
