Reiah's Gift (3/3)
The image shifts as Reiah gently closes the box and lays her hands over it and Krieg's own hand. Reiah: I may yet struggle with my magic... but if I am able to make something capable of protecting my friends, or aiding them in their endeavors... I surely will. Every time. A 2 panel image that is a closeup of Krieg's face. In the first, he is smiling down at Reiah as tears sit in the corners of his eyes, threatening to spill. In the second image, he closes them and turns his head slightly while still smiling. A vertical 3 panel image. In the top panel, Krieg takes Reiah's hands in his own and presses them to his forehead. A sign of affection his mother always uses, that he continues with his own family and trusted friends. Krieg: I struggle to find fitting words... Thank you, Reiah, for such kindness and the gift of your friendship. The 2nd panel shows him bringer her hands down slightly, but still smiling, and then in the 3rd panel he turns his head slightly to look towards the table. Krieg: Ha... you know, perhaps your sweetness comes from the copious sugar you insist upon in your tea! Reiah looks amusingly shocked. In the final image, she pulls her hands back - one to cover her sudden burst of laughter, and the second to teasingly pat against Krieg's arm. He puts his arm up slightly in mock defense and chuckles at her. Reiah: How DARE you!

A 2 panel image. Krieg takes a seat next to Reiah as she reaches into one of her pockets to pull out a black box, which she holds out towards Krieg for him to take. Reiah: Yet, even as I say that, I come bearing the fruit of Boutique labor and love. Krieg takes the box, and opens it to reveal an asymmetrical set of earrings. The earring meant for the right is a golden chain aligned with crystals of multiple colors, with bright white stones decorating both ends of the chain. The earring meant for the left is a long golden dangle. The top of it is a complete circle, with a white crystal hanging down and suspended in the center of it. At the bottom of the circle, another white crystal attaches and from it an ornate golden bar hangs low, black glyphs seeming to be etched along it. Krieg: Reiah, I... these are gorgeous. the design is so beautiful, and these crystals...? Reiah: They're aspected crystals, yes! It occurred to me while working with them that aught might be put to use in not only weaponry or machinery, but adornments as well. The camera turns back to them, as Krieg looks down at the earrings in awe, taken aback by the gesture. Reiah: The principals of your magick and method of transference fascinates me, Krieg. Your glyphs, in particular, are so finely tuned, I found myself yearning to craft something that would not only resemble them, but bolster them. A 2 panel image. Zoomed in shots of the earrings again. The first shows Reiah pointing at the multi-colored crystal chain, and the other shows her pointing at the dangle. Reiah: As you cast, these aspected crystals will aid you in your elemental shifts, amplifying your glyphs and their magick. Reiah: These are intended to be unaspected, to balance you and bring you back to center. However, they are capable of becoming aspected if you remain within an element too long, so as with all magick, I urge caution.

Krieg enters the space, now holding a tray with a cup of tea and a larger cup that holds sugar for Reiah to use. Reiah: Nevertheless, I am overjoyed at the prospect of being able to journey without Scion or Boutique pretext! Krieg: Full glad am I to hear! Independent travel is always a worthy endeavor!

To be fair some of their saints did jump several hundred feet into the air, just to turn themselves into living balista bolts on the way down. And also wear spikey armor so that way they hurt dragons in case they're eaten.

So trying to boil it down to "Gridania Racist" ignores the fact that there is a LOT wrong going on in Gridania, and its deeper than just the elementals. It's the treatment of those living on the "fringes". Its how they view their own flaws thru a lense of "we're living at one with nature, though?"

I mean, you're completely right to bring up that Gridania's issues are far more nuanced than people realize. If anything the idea of "oh it's all the elementals fault" kind of reflects a potential in-universe deflection. Where people can write off the problems as being "out of their control"
