(She/her)

Intersectional feminist, & the executive function in an AuDHD household.

NB Kiddo (they/them).
I kinda wish they still offered soup after blood donations… (Muji instant soups would be choice)

We apologize for the inconvenience but the Mother Creature is currently in Gremlin Mode until she finishes ‘Ghost of Yotei’.

If you require executive function, please hold while we try to connect you…

I go to Ueno Zoo to be stared at by shoebills & eat panda dango

Somehow managed to wrench my knee in my sleep. 😑
Kiddo’s theory is that I was trying to put my leg over @chealion.ca but hurt myself bc he wasn’t there …
Another reason to tag along for business trips whenever possible 😜

This!

A full time job should pay enough to house and feed you and your family!

That should be normal.

It shouldn't matter if that full time job is manufacturing, government work, or cashier at a grocery store.
It's not necessary to onshore manufacturing for people to have good wages that they can use to build secure lives

it's necessary to reverse decades of anti-union policies and stop billionaires from siphoning away all the value workers create

I am 42! Where’s my answer to life, the universe, & everything?

We made it past the photo-hungry crowds of Fushimi Inari to the summit of Inariyama! Then rewarded ourselves with amazing matcha soba & parfaits at Tsubakido at the bottom. 😋

Can I just say how amazing & appalling it is that even the Lawson at Ghibli Park carries limited edition goods?

Turned into a hot, sunny day at Ghibli Park!
Kid wanted to try their hand at making “gohei mochi” over a charcoal grill. Too hot for me, so @chealion.ca gets to experience it too (as the adult supervision).
I am waiting outside in the shade to taste the results. 😝

Went to Arashiyama & enjoyed the unexpected pleasure of a “zen vegetarian meal” at Shojin Ryori (they are usually booked solid; we had no reservation!)

Teaching Kid to give basic leg massages was a good idea

First sighting of an authentic Brommie in Japan at Osaka Station! (& it was the same one as @brettbergie.bsky.social)

Already love the quieter pace of Kyoto. They have cigarette/smoke-free zones, & there is a “Espresso, Bread, & Kyoto” right around the corner 😋

Also: today I found the Nyanko-Sensei Shop

I don’t know if it’s the neighborhoods we stayed in (Ueno in Tokyo; Motomachi in Osaka), but I’m finding more obvious accommodations (eg. braille used in public spaces) in Osaka. There are also a lot more people with differing mobility out & about in the major stations here.

I finally figured out the (probable) reason I’ve been getting dirty looks when @chealion.ca pays at checkout. He still wears his wedding ring (but I don’t wear mine after my hands swelled during pregnancy).

Ensured @chealion.ca got his kushikatsu experience in at Daruma #everythingistastierwhendeepfriedonastick

Accosted by native deer on Miyajima. #stoptryingtoeatmybackpack

It absolutely poured at teamLabs Botanical, but nothing dampens the Kid for long

Doom-scrolling is /slightly/ less depressing while sitting on a heated toilet seat.

Osaka has a LOT more public seating, as well as readily available bins. Dotonburi is a zoo, but very cool to experience - need more cash to go back for more street food, though! Rainbow hair dye is not getting stared at here as much either.

Passenger rail between Tokyo & Osaka has utterly convinced my family of the superiority of traveling by rail. The ekiben (train lunches) were marvelous too!

First Shinkansen check-in was pretty stressful with a 12y.o. Suica considers them a child, but the Shinkansen required us to buy them an adult ticket (11y.o. cutoff instead of 13). So trying to enter with the child Suica caused an error. Everything sorted but much confusion initially. 🤦🏻‍♀️
