In Egypt's land did Pharoah plan -
A mighty monument decreed -
Where Nile the sacred river ran
Through deserts measureless to man
A memorial to his greed.

They fuck you up, your King of Kings.
They may not mean to but they do.
They leave you trunkless legs of stone,
And add some visage, just for you.
Whose land this is I do not know
The statue fell down long ago;
No one will mind me stopping here
To watch the sand o’er ruins blow.

My camel friend must think it queer
To rest with no oasis near
And precious little shade these days
Gives Ozymandias, I fear.

If you are looking for sarcophagi, it's tombscrolling.
If you’re looking for woven materials it’s loomscrolling
If you're looking for psychedelic fungus, it's shroomscrolling

Just because something is popular does not mean it is bad.
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

#sundaylit Happiness (show, don't tell): share a WIP snippet, short story or poem which shows the feeling of happiness without using the word.

This one's a little tricky, because it's really only in comparison with previous scenes of Leo being Mr Awkward that a […]

Happiness:

Watched a silly film, and it cheered me up. It was  See How They Run, and it was very silly indeed, but I did enjoy Saoirse Ronan's turn as Constable Stalker.

Here are a few suggestions to show happiness:
- Outward physical cues and behaviours
- Internal physical sensations
- Cognitive responses
- Perhaps a character wishes to hide their happiness to another character, but not to the reader. How would you show this?

Blackened mould mottles the wallpaper and ceiling. Intricate tattoos of death. My parent’s home is decaying like my brother in his grave. He stares accusingly from the photo frames. The table is set for four, but there are only the three of us.

Prompt: Openings

Q2: Many stories involve openings between different worlds and times. Books themselves offer an opening to another place. What reasons draw you to write and/or read something unusual and alien to your lived reality?

#SundayLit Prompt: Openings - the opening of my current embryonic WIP.

The sea is angry tonight. The water thumps against Matty Bowden’s skiff like a man who slams a fist upon a table, ready to start a fight.

Prompt: Openings

Q1: What makes a good opening to a novel? Is it dependant on genre? What are some of your favourite opening lines from the stories you've read?

Add your thoughts in the comments. I will post more questions throughout the day.

I keep meaning to post here more. Where's the #WritingCommunity? What are the best hashtags to follow?

I write epic fantasies and stories full of Cornish #folklore. I currently have one novel out to query, another I'm editing, and a third that's in the embryonic stage.

I also love tea.

Need ideas? Here are some suggestions.
- Share the opening line to you WIP
- Share a line using the prompt word
- Get creative with alternative meanings: an opening could mean an opportunity, an open space, or the beginning of something.

What movie do you consider "perfect"?

Pretty much everybody feels This Is A Low, though. And that really is sad. Modern life is rubbish.
Nobody is getting their head checked by a jumbo jet anymore, and that's sad.
Nobody is getting up on it like this for the mix anymore, and that's sad.
