I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

I think the most seemingly daunting idea is watching a voting session BUT this is something that helps you get a glimpse into the inner workings- learn lingo, proper protocol, etc. You’ll realize you are smarter than you think and just exposing yourself will allow you to learn without pressure.

It’s been a long time since the last update because I was waiting for replies that were sitting in my junk folder 😂
I completed my voters assistance trainings and quizzes. I am now able to assist In online and in-person events! I plan on shadowing on a few things first.

In order to become a volunteer, there are some trainings to undergo. The first one I did is about basic voter rights abroad and simply breaking down the different kinds of elections and so on. It was so clearly explained. It was really exciting that everything was so beginner-friendly.

I’m waiting to hear back but here’s to the first steps! It comes down to us!! It is scary to stumble into something unknown but scarier to do nothing and wait for the impending doom. So, let’s do it scared together!

I was also told in what capacity they need folks and they are open to hearing where I’d feel most comfortable- social media, getting voters, etc. I said I’m good at learning and teaching so I just want to join meetings and meet people at first.

Being outside of the States, I joined Democrats Abroad and their associated chats. I emailed them at the end of February about interest in open positions. I have been told to join an additional chat and complete some trainings.

Politics can feel like a club you were involved in early on & love it or you miss the wave and never catch it again. I want to contribute by understanding the best ways for a newbie to jump in and make real change. I think one part is being transparent and sharing my learning journey.

I have a knack for learning anything, comprehending it at a deeply and then teaching the concept in simple terms. Based on that, my plan is to get the chance to absorb tons of info and be in different rooms to gain a baseline understanding of everything and then write articles and train people.

I was inspired by a high school classmate to start somewhere with politics. I believe that apathy comes from being overwhelmed and not understanding where to start or what simple steps to take to make change.

Thanks to following @chasefranklin.bsky.social ‘s journey, I decided to fill out an interest form for Democrats Abroad. Either do it scared or do it without freedom!
