And I would feel less sour toward the conservative justices if they did not also jump in to override states' decisions about, say, gun safety laws and non-discrimination protections. What we're seeing is a HIGHLY selective and hypocritical application of deference to the democratic process.

I think Barrett is wrong to say that there isn't a history of state discrimination against transgender people in the U.S. But the problem is that this discrimination often took the form of sex discrimination—enforcing sex stereotypes, for instance—and Barrett isn't seeing the connection.
