Every ai booster believes that college is about doing homework. They think there’s a homework goblin that pays the colleges for their homework. Their dream is that they can have a machine that you can pay $75,000 to and receive a college degree from in four years.

“AI is clearly sticking around so you have to get used to it” wrong. I don’t have to get used to shit. I am a practiced hater and I can keep this going for decades if I am required to

hot take : LLM are a dead end in term of artificial intelligence. the fact that some people look at it and are like "yes this is how the brain and intelligence work" just shows how little we know about ourselves.

u need so much more to make something "intelligent", and not just trained.

Just saw some hashtag about “ai art community” and it is genuinely hilarious to call yourself an artist. Sorry man telling something to “draw you a cat” isn’t you doing art. Please learn a real skill.

every few years it's revealed that the NYT was sitting on information about some horrific thing that public knowledge of would have changed the country's course and for some reason a ton of people still give them money. you can play those games on other sites

Nobody wanted Democrats to cave so naturally they’re just deciding to do it. Would be nice if they listened to what their voters are saying instead though.

agreeing to make a terrible deal while your main opponent is quite literally being boo'd on live tv by an entire stadium of people is the kind of political instinct you'd normally only find in a 3 week old dead goldfish

Why do people feel compelled to post garbage takes like this? Pure simpleton take. There are of course multiple other positions. Like mine! Research it extensively and have a serious academic interest in GenAI, and have concluded it blows and is going to make society dumber.
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

With the AI image and everything. This is the thing that's made me angriest about the wimpy Dem/elite response to this round of Trump shit: these people are absolute donkeys, they don't know how to DO anything. Jam them, challenge them, mock them, all they can do is fucking cry, sue, and post.

For my writing center folks in Maryland, northern Virginia, and southern Pennsylvania: Consider joining this year's iteration of the Baltimore Writing Center Project. I've done it twice, and it's valuable professional development for administrators and tutors alike.

Since it's the start of a new academic year (well, it is on my campus, anyway, and probably in many other places, too!), I'm once again promoting my writing center starter pack for any folks -- coordinators, tutors, you name it -- who'd like to get on board. Inquire within!
To borrow from Anne Lamott, here's my "shitty first draft" of a Bluesky starter pack for writing center folks. No clue how many other interested parties are out there, but let me know if you'd like to be added because I'd love for this to be representative of the field!
