What folks need to realize about "peace talks" is that this is all theater for Washington. Ukraine knows that Russia has no intention of stopping the war, and the Russians know the Ukrainians know that. So this is just all a performance for Trump, hoping he blames the other for the lack of peace.

There is something patently absurd in all the moaning about EU unity as a contrast to America when we are now in week 5 of a US government shutdown that increasingly looks permanent

Yeah, I've been prepared to give ridiculous amounts of benefit of doubt, but the cowardly refusal to call out a snowballing far right is inexcusable and unforgivable abdication of duty.

Look I know it's a sjot inheritance and we have deep rooted structural economic and political problems and switching PMs won't solve them. But saying "fascist hooliganism is bad and we're gonna nick the culprits" is the easy part, and yet he is just. Not. Doing. It.

If IMF forecasts an improved fiscal path for UK and debt lower than peers, why has the gilt market been uniquely picked on?

Two tier journalism
Jeremy Hunt literally owning a property empire, sells a number of properties and avoids a huge slice of tax.

Nothing said.

Angela Rayner buying a house on the coast & it’s absolutely outrageous.

Working class girl, getting above her station.

Aspiration, only when it suits.

This country eh?

"Fewer immigrant workers means a smaller economy"

This was the point I was making in the Observer yesterday and on Today this morning.

The government borrowed £151 billion last financial year. Which was £14.6 billion more than the OBR estimate *last month*.

And yet their forecasts for five years time are being used as the entire basis for public policy decision making.

Replacing editors with algorithms might be the most costly decision in human history. Literally trillions of dollars will be lost, and that’s not even starting on the number of lives that will be lost.

Vaccination rates are falling. It is the media as much as populists who are to blame for this.
Falling confidence in vaccination illustrates how the media’s obsession with balance and impartiality, and its aversion to regulation, can kill.
In the United States it is easy to view falling rates of vaccination for diseases like measles as a simple consequence of a right wing pop...

A decadent end to a decadent (American) empire …
True decadence looks like people who are three generations removed from the cultural memory of polio refusing to vaccinate their children against deadly communicable diseases because they don’t like needles and don’t think there will be any real consequences, not sexy queer goth dance parties.

I passionately disagree with Will. There are at least 7 great ironies of Brexit. His is a corker - but here are six more... 1/7
The greatest irony of Brexit is that it increased political/economic demand for immigration.
Overall, as forecast, the overwhelming consensus among economists is that the impact of Brexit has been significant and negative, but not catastrophic. Some of the downsides on trade have been partially offset by increases in migration.

Volt on top let’s go

14 years.

Fourteen years which started with a couple of school kids going out to paint anti-Assad graffiti, sparking a revolution. Fourteen years of protests and repression. Of war, destruction and mass murder by a desperate regime.

14 years, after which the tide has turned.
