This Thursday. Gerard Van Herk is my hero. His band Deja Voodoo and his label Og Records warped my teenage brain, never to be the same again. He’s back with a new LP after 30+ years and he’s performing here in Ottawa. With Bloodshot Bill, Eddy Gazel and me spinning 45s. Late start but early finish.

Our band, the Sore Boozers performed a mess of tunes by fictional bands from TV and movies tonight, with some talented friends. What a blast.

1. The history of baseball stadiums in Toronto goes back a century before the SkyDome opened.

With the Jays coming home for Game Six, I thought I'd share my old thread about it.

It begins all the way back in the 1800s with a place called the Toronto Baseball Grounds…

At the TIME100 AI celebration last night, Natasha Lyonne stood in front of the emperors of AI and challenged them to their face. Doing that takes guts. And I’m incredibly honored that she cited my work as well.

Thank you for speaking truth to power, Natasha. 🙏

I saw someone's post somewhere that talked about how their

Mom: "We're having dinosaur meat for dinner tonight."
Kid: "That's AI."

Solidarity with the postal workers.

The proposed cuts - the mere idea of eliminating the century-old foundational idea of "getting mail at your home", all because Canada Post doesn't "turn a profit like a business" - should be embarrassing for us as a country

Neither saint or martyr, Joe Strummer still remains my ultimate hero for the way his endless curiosity about others stimulated a profound compassion he could never fully control. Here's a piece I wrote about 'London Calling' for the Ringer. Happy birthday, rude boy. www.theringer.com/2019/12/17/m...
The Siren Sound of the Clash’s ‘London Calling,’ 40 Years Later
Released in 1979, the Clash’s third album changed everything—punk rock, the band that made it, and the fans who worshiped it. Decades later, its rich, eclectic, propulsive sound hasn’t aged a minute, ...

You could ask me, any given day, who my favouriye band is, and you might get a different answer. But most often the answer will be, "the Mekons". And it would be the correct answer.
The most life affirming thing you'll see today, this week, in your life: the Mekons.
