Both countries claimed Hans Island.

Instead of escalating, they handled it politely. Canadian and Danish officials would visit the island. They’d swap flags.
Canadians would leave whiskey, the Danish would leave schnapps.

In 2022, the two countries agreed to divide the island in half.
