Wrote a piece - with Matt Nicholson - on whether dualism provides an effective guide to, or description of, the UK's relationship with international laws (tl;dr summary: not really). It will be coming out in the CLJ in due course, but you can read it *now* here: www.cambridge.org/core/service...

No, charging VAT on private healthcare is not a re-run of the VAT/education debate.

It wouldn't just impact 5% of the population - everyone who sees a private dentist/optician would pay more.

And it wouldn't raise £2bn. Plausibly it would lose money.

To get one positive book review from a top scholar is a gift. I’m bouncing with happiness to discover that my book Law at the Frontiers of Biomedicine (funded by a major fellowship from @leverhulme.bsky.social) has received a third.

I have now submitted the 7th edition of Medical Law and Ethics to the publisher. This revision has been a massive endeavour and taken over 2 years.

I’ll post a summary of the (huge number of) revisions and updates once I have a publication date.

Having a PhD in Law

They: "Are you a real doctor?"

Me: "I have a doctorate, but I am not a medical doctor"

They: "What?"

Me: "I do not diagnose, treat, or prevent illnesses and injuries"

They: "Then what can you do?"

Me: "I can make footnotes, thick footnotes!"
