There is a reason why people label the Greens as hating business. You don’t have to be right wing to see that. Increasing the corporate tax rate does not incentivise business growth in NZ. Instead there would be less jobs and exports. 🙄 Then less tax. Then less ability to pay for their promises.

On prisoner voting - populist views will largely support any further punishment of offenders. That doesn’t mean gut reactions align with the outcomes we want to see.
I’m not suggesting this is the largest protective factor. Not by any means. But the link is there. Why ignore it?

I agree with these important comments. Generally the level of public discourse has been heading in an ever more toxic/abusive direction. Where hate and vitriol from all corners has become normalised.

Nicola Willis just announced the tightest budget since Bill English’s ‘zero’ budget of 2012. She just cut the 2025/26 operating allowance from $2.4 billion to $1.3 billion. Treasury said in December that over $1 billion was already pre-committed, which means there’s now $0.3 billion left. 1/n

NZ’s housing affordability crisis will not magically improve because of the removal of council inspections for selected “simple” builds. If these changes indeed speed up delivery and reduce costs then that of course is to be commended. It’s hard not to have some level of skepticism though
