Like Stanton, Bilbrew often depicted powerful, sinister femdoms, but took a particular interest in stories of submissive men forced to wear women's clothing. While "forcefem" art is not in itself trans representation, the genre remains meaningful to many trans* and gender non-conforming people. -HC

From the Forced Feminization Collection: Forced Femininity, a magazine published by Selbee Publications in 1963 featuring a comic by "bizarre art" pioneer Gene Bilbrew. A disciple of Eric Stanton, Bilbrew may have been the first African American artist to make a career in fetish illustration. -HC
