I remember my mother today and I miss her. One of the last photos of Bertha Estela Troncoso in her kitchen in Ysleta, a Mexican immigrant who had a near-photographic memory, who cared for her family sometimes at the cost of her own health, and who was an inspiration as a moral force in our family. ♥️

Join me at the Troncoso Library in Ysleta on Thursday, May 15, 4:30 pm! It’s an Open House and I can’t wait to chat with the neighborhood and friends. #elpasotexas #elpasotx #ysleta

Thank you Harvard/Radcliffe Raza for inviting me to give a talk and to answer questions from members! Raza was so important to my surviving Harvard as a poor Mexican American student from the border. Always give back to your community to help the next generation to empower themselves.

Please encourage friends to stop by for a talk on my literary work, being a poor kid from the Mexican American border at Harvard, with only Eagles and Led Zeppelin t-shirts, becoming a writer, and surviving to tell that and many other stories!

Rest in peace, Jimmy Carter. When I was seventeen in 1978, I wrote a paper analyzing Carter’s presidential campaign victory in 1976. I liked that he was a farmer from rural Georgia, which appealed to me in Ysleta. I admired the work he did even more after leaving the White House. What a good man.
