That some of Australia’s most iconic beaches could soon be free from shark nets is epic news!

Finally – the NSW state government appears willing to listen to the mountain of evidence against these inhumane and ineffective nets.

Popular Sydney beaches could soon join shark net removal trial
Councils who run some of the most popular beaches in the country, including Bondi, have been asked to join a trial of removing shark nets by the New South Wales government.

The govt seems content to look the other way when environmental disasters occur underwater – out of sight, out of mind for so many.

Just look at the lack of action in response to the record beaching on Ningaloo and the Great Barrier Reef this summer.

And now South Australia.

It is great to hear the Albanese government will introduce legislation to ratify the UN High Seas Treaty.

This Treaty will implement a framework to manage & protect international waters – which remain a lawless frontier where environmental destruction is often met with impunity.

The QLD govt’s plan to expand its use of shark nets and drumlines is not shark control – it’s a shark cull!

The federal Environment Minister must reject it.

This week Labor approved some of the most polluting fossil fuel projects in Australia’s history & locked us into gas until 2070 by ticking off Woodside’s North West Shelf extension project.

It’s great to see govts investing in modern, non-lethal shark mitigation!

We know that lethal nets & drumlines don't keep beaches safe & harm marine wildlife.

Surveillance, resource building and education in collaboration with community like this is the way to go. More of this!!
State Government expands shark mitigation measures
The State Government has partnered with Surfing WA to deliver $300,000 in funding for shark mitigation measures.

Australia is losing the war on waste.

The new Senate inquiry report into Australia’s waste reduction and recycling policies shows clearly that our current and historic federal policy framework has failed.

It is time for strong, political action on the waste crisis.

If our terrestrial forests were being decimated at the same rate as our kelp forests there would be uproar.

It’s predicted that half of all Tassie’s east coast reefs will be lost by the mid-2030s unless action is taken to protect the Great Southern Reef.

End AUKUS. It’s that simple.

Trump has proven himself over and over again to be nothing but dangerous & destructive.

That we continue to tie ourselves to the US and its military priorities is unthinkable.

Today should be our ‘Liberation Day’ – liberation from this toxic deal.

First GP for Free, now making supermarket price gouging illegal! After months of Greens campaigning, Labor has once again adopted another one of our policies.

Once again, this is proof that Greens pressure works!

Extending Woodside’s North West Shelf project would be a climate crime that would facilitate the most polluting projects in Australia’s history & lock us into gas until 2070.

Dutton’s pledge to approve the project shows the type of horrors in store under a Government he'd lead.

This weekend we have seen once again that Greens pressure works!

Following months of Greens campaigning, it’s official: Labor has now adopted a large part of our GP for Free election plan.

On one stretch of WA coastline we have this week witnessed the tragic bleaching of Ningaloo Reef.

While on a different stretch, yet another fossil fuel climate-bomb has just been approved.

This is a climate crime, plain and simple.

NOPSEMA’s regulation of the offshore fossil fuel industry must be scrutinised following the government agency’s approval of embattled fossil fuel company Esso’s Bass Strait Development.

The unprecedented and shocking decline of Bicheno's little penguin population is a wakeup call to all communities along the Great Southern Reef that the impacts of climate change are with us here and now.

Tours cancelled as adult penguins fail to return to young at seaside town
A sudden drop in adult little penguin numbers at Bicheno on Tasmania's east coast has led to alarm for the fate of the colony as penguin chicks reliant on parents are seen dying.

Following calls from the Greens, community and environment orgs, the Environment Minister has extended the consultation period on Woodside's plan to dump carbon pollution at Scott Reef.

I encourage everyone to use this time to make sure your voice is heard and make a submission.
There are now just 24 hours left to have your say on carbon pollution dumping at Scott Reef.

It is vital we let Labor know that we won’t accept the greenwashing of what would be Australia’s most polluting project, or its attempt to sweep this under the rug!

Approving new coal mine extensions then tweeting like you didn’t, seriously?

This is Trumpian denialism. No wonder people are over politics.

It's a dangerous path we're on when people are drowning in a sea of false & misleading claims, but can’t trust govts not to deceive them.
What a difference a decade makes.

Shark nets are lethal fisheries devices masquerading as sensible protective barriers for humans, but the truth is they merely give a false sense of security to ocean-goers while indiscriminately killing marine wildlife.

If a bushfire had burned for thousands of kilometres along the east coast of Australia, annihilated World Heritage habitat, decimated wildlife and impacted communities and the economy, a national emergency declaration would have already occurred.

The failure to negotiate a Global Plastic Treaty is deeply disappointing but sadly not surprising.

With plastic lobbyists making up the largest group at the talks and oil-producing countries refusing to engage on production caps, it is no wonder an agreement wasn’t reached.

Good on the SA govt for listening to the science, rejecting calls to have protected shark species culled, & instead acting to help avoid future shark encounters.

Pity federal action is still lacking! The states shouldn't be left to go it alone.

We can’t continue to monitor the Great Barrier Reef to its death.

Strong political action on climate change can secure its future, but so long as Labor is beholden to fossil fuel corporations the Great Barrier Reef will continue to be decimated by political stupidity.
