If you want to know who your city is actually built for, wait for it to snow. The machines get a heated red carpet. The humans get a frozen obstacle course.
This was a choice, not by the person walking but by the decision makers who refuse to prioritize them.

The fact Bovino is a career civil servant and not a political appointee really shows CBP needs to be abolished root and branch. Let the IRS do customs (seriously).

“We can’t all be expected to bike.”

Fair. But that’s not the point.

“Not everyone can or wants to bike. But some people can & do—and they deserve a safe, efficient, affordable way to move through the city. It’s about freedom of choice.”

This & other useful comebacks, in @momentummag.bsky.social.

Anti-bike arguments aren’t just frustrating—they’re outdated, inaccurate, and often repeated without a shred of evidence.

I’m away traveling but heard Tuesday’s HB City Council meeting was more of a shitshow than normal. Hard to believe it could get worse especially given the largely ceremonial nature of typical December meetings of the past.

Can you confirm?

As a daily cyclist and (class 1) e-bike rider, this piece is an excellent, balanced piece.

I also firmly believe anything with just a throttle, and no pedalling, needs to be classified as an e-moto and subject to (much) stricter regulation than bikes or class 1 e-bikes.
This New York Times piece on super-fast e-bikes and how dangerous they are is well done. It is nuanced, not hysterical and very much doesn't damn all e-bikes. But it does properly show how incredibly bad the illegal/unregulated throttle-driven ones are: www.nytimes.com/2025/11/30/m...

The wealthy have stolen so much wealth and rigged the system so far that our economy is on the verge of collapse. They’re pushing fascism and dismantling democracy to get at what little remains.

We don’t have to live like this. We deserve better.

The same political party that treats a single murder by someone from a foreign country as a pretext for "a complete & total shutdown" of immigration from that country, is at the same time calling for a "let 'er rip" approach to AI chatbots that are harming (and sometimes killing) us in myriad ways.

For all those who believe e-bikes are the biggest roadway safety issue ...

You are either:
A) A complete clown (very likely)
B) Have NEVER walked or bike anywhere for transit
C) Believe everything you see in car commercials, or
D) A grotesque mixture of A, B & C

*The correct answer is D*

Aside from everything else wrong with it, the vanity and vandalism and illegality of it, it is a monument to bribery, funded by naked corruption, a cankerous tumor on the heart of the republic. Any future president who lets it stand would be endorsing and affirming the legitimacy of that symbolism.

The reality, of course, is that Miller and a significant portion of Trump’s base are the ones who failed to assimilate to America’s post-WWII culture of multi-racial democracy & religious pluralism…and they are now using their power to destroy that once dominant (and still popular) American culture.
Stephen Miller is now arguing that assimilation is fundamentally impossible and that certain cultures are not compatible with Western civilization

The thing is we've known that housing the homeless is cheaper than neglect, we've known that Ubi is effective at eliminating poverty, we've known that heavily subsidized housing and education leads people into the middle class, we've known all of these things in some cases for 70 years.
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

When I speak publicly abt the need for safe ped/bike infrastructure, elected officials often say: "We have bike lanes, & they're fine."

My response has always been the same. I ask: "Would you take your young child for a ride using our bike lanes?"

For me, that's the difference between good & bad.
