The honest truth about the Mets is this: If they don't figure out their starting rotation, it doesn't matter who their closer is.

The Mets presumably would have been okay with a contract for Díaz at his previous AAV of $20.4MM. It feels weird to draw the line at $23 million, which is basically the difference of signing like a backup infielder. The advantage of Díaz is that he's someone you largely set and forget.

One thing about "original intent" is that the original Constitution was so hostile to the President that their rival was made Vice President, but now we have SCOTUS "originalists" happily giving the President absolute power over everything.*

* So long as they're a Republican.
the whole structure of this argument — independent agencies are politically unaccountable therefore the president must have removal power — treats congress as if it were a total nullity, or as if only the president truly represents the public.

It’s about getting sick in America.

And it’s about what happens when the most powerful institution in town is a hospital.
As Phoebe Memorial Grew, the Health of Albany, Georgia, Declined
The five-part series, “Sick in a Hospital Town,” pursues one question: Why are people in Albany so sick when its most powerful institution is a hospital?

Woah. Newsmax’s legal analyst just said Pete Hegseth and everyone involved in the illegal boat strike should be “prosecuted for a war crime.”

They’ve even lost Newsmax on this one.

in the US, you can have one MLB team cheat their way to winning a World Series championship with insufficient consequences. Another team abandons their fans for a tax break and plays in a minor league park, raking in profits! how can fans
actually thwart that level of unscrupulous behavior?

Unfortunately, in US journalism it is considered neutral to spread a lie, but it is considered "biased" to call out a lie. So, there is a structural asymmetry that rewards colorful lies with virality.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.
