Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story.

Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver.

This is what "merit" means to them.

Hegseth had previously taken aim at Brown. “First of all, you gotta fire, you know, you gotta fire the chairman of Joint Chiefs,” he said flatly in a podcast in November. And in one of his books, he questioned whether Brown got the job because he was Black.

“Was it because of his skin color? Or his skill? We’ll never know, but always doubt — which on its face seems unfair to CQ. But since he has made the race card one of his biggest calling cards, it doesn’t really much matter,” Hegseth wrote.

Caine’s military service includes combat roles in Iraq, special operations postings and positions inside some of the Pentagon’s most classified special access programs. However, it does not include key assignments that were identified in law as prerequisites for the job, with an exemption for the president to waive them if necessary in times of national interest.

All this talk of cutting “unnecessary spending” from the state budget + the state’s argument that they don’t have to provide school libraries got us curious. We searched the term “library” in the 25/26 proposed budget and found a $3.77M “transparency tool”…

Transparency Tool
The department is requesting $3,777,000 of recurring General Revenue to maintain a transparency tool for parents for educational materials. The transparency tool will be completed in Fiscal Year 2024-25 and the request will provide funds for recurring maintenance costs and technical support.
In support of Ch. 2022-22, Laws of Florida, Parental Rights in Education, the department is working to identify a statewide solution to provide visibility for parents, district staff and school staff of instructional materials, educational resources and library media materials. Providing a statewide, centralized, easily accessible solution for access to these materials will allow for across-the-board consistency in how the materials are searched, displayed, reviewed and accessed by users. Districts are currently making the materials available in various formats and platforms. Centralizing this process ensures that parents, districts, school staff and the general public have access to the same information.

Dems already did this on immigration and got painted as open border communist globalists anyway. This simply does not work. Dems need to have a back bone and actually argue from their differences with conservatives rather than bending over and adopting conservative lite positions because of polls.

one of the podjons (i think the straight one) in reference to that NYT piece about how “special interests” like trans people and immigrants lost the dems the election: “Dems should resist any group or special interest that pressures them to take positions opposed by the electoral majority essential to win, whether that's big corporations, rich donors, nonprofits, whoever.
This isn't about blaming specific groups for defeat - it's about what's required to win.”
