The Kaipara Council election is the contest that just will not end! That said, unless the firm running the election has really stuffed up, 21 votes out of 6,300 should be too many to overturn (electorate recounts at national elections with 4x more votes usually produce this sort of margin of error).
New Kaipara Mayor Jonathan Larsen faces vote recount challenge from Snow Tane
Snow Tane is just 21 votes behind incoming new mayor Jonathan Larsen after Friday’s local election results.

I am completely awestruck by the ease with which Mike Johnson lies on a daily basis. I'll never understand how such a transparently fraudulent "man of faith" can live with themselves. Life is too short to be that phony.

What is the best means of crafting and using a military?

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth seems to think it is a “warrior ethos.” But as @profpaulpoast.bsky.social writes, Eisenhower offered a much stronger argument:
As Eisenhower Knew, Hegseth’s ‘Warrior Ethos’ Isn’t What Wins Wars
The U.S. defense secretary’s emphasis on warfighting ignores the other important factors that make a military cohesive and effective.

CBS reporter Edward R. Murrow embodied what a journalist should be: someone who holds power to account instead of capitulating to it.

I can’t adequately express how mystified and nauseated I am by the conversation about Trump receiving a Nobel Peace Prize that corporate media is now leading. But as a journalist, attorney, historian and Trump presidential biographer I’m now obligated to make the case *against* in full.

Here it is:
Media and MAGA Calls for Trump to Catch a Nobel Peace Prize Rather Than An ICC War Crimes Indictment Are Obscene
The second-biggest threat to global peace after Putin has earned a cell for war crimes—not a humanitarian award. That his grotesque and scammy appeal for a Nobel Peace Prize is working is terrifying.
