I'm Shea McCaughley a wanna be horror writer from Ireland studying English History and watching old Giealo films.

Media thread I may just brodacast all the shit I'm consuming now for the craic I do it on my instgram anyways.

Last Exit to Brooklyn christ this movie was depressing as shit the book is heavily streamlined in this version and I need to re read it because I think it may be my next favorite.
That being said it will always amuse me that Persona 5 blundered into one of the best portrayals of autism I've ever seen in something.
NGL I really do think part of why I always felt a bit seen in Persona 4 even if someone like Kanji isnt entirely bi is that the game really gets how restrictive and frustrating small town living can be.

Oh hey its Christopher Lee the guy who played Dracula.
Kelsey Grammar that's Sideshow Bob
I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”

NGL I feel like this is me whenever people cry about nerd shit being woke for casting a black guy when I'm like no they're not they're just trying to appeal to the widest demographic possible they're functioning the way capitalism should.
i don't even think valve is particularly progressive lol they're just aware of how markets and demographics work and don't have some kind of nonsensical disgust response nor do they need to rely on chud grifting. unlike the entire right wing ecosystem they seem to care more about tangible results

Is it weird that I never understood the concept of something like the anime or reading community like I get we are defining community by we all like the thing but whenever people say this I'm like how are we in a community together I'm A not participating in it and b I don't even know you.

I'm just posting about the state of the comics industry to distract my self that one of the worlds biggest superpowers is run by criminal rape gangs meanwhile people cant afford insulin.

See Im willing to work with a plan where its like five quid a month for my weekly's where the most recent issue is free for a while but I have to pay like a tenner for some of the trades of the old runs.
Jump benefits from being biggest manga entity in the world meanwhile to make that work over here I'm going to have to pay 5 bucks to marvel dc and image to get what they want and those two are going to have to give the creators their due and I don't see either happening.

Watching weekly pull shorts and trying to get into weekly comics myself I really do think comics as a whole would benefit from something like the Jump app. But then I feel like American comics is too fractured for something like that to happen.

NGL I cant really imagine anything more Lovecraftian then getting the life chocked out of your town for Mecha Hitler of all things.

Imagine the ball busting RNG of Fear and Hunger without the evolving premise.

I also think why guys like Azmongaloid like AI art is that they do view art as a very elitist thing and they think only the chosen few who respect the sanctity of continuity and have no politics or the ones I agree with should make it rather then a lot of these wokeys.
The Joyce Carol Oates and “books written between 1890-1930 are so ALPHA” thing struck home because it showed how many elites nowadays lack the ability to be moved or find meaning in art beyond what we did watching John Wick and going fuck yea this rules and that explains why they believe in AI art

I think for a lot of writers its the difference between here's why my book is important vs oh btw in case you didn't get this here's what the book was about. And like I find a lot of left leaning artists are not subtle with their politics what so ever.
I know authors like Terry Pratchett and Le Guin were really forward with their politics but man I swear when some newer writers do it it hits with all the sanctimony and impact of an Instagram thread.

In much the same way Del Toro claims Frankenstein is the quintessential teenage girl novel I feel like Lovecraft does the same but for teenage boys.
Discovering Lovecraft and Legotti at 19 really re wired my brain then again I don't remember a time since I finished the Hunger Games books where I wasn't reading something.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

NGL I'm reading So Thirsty and I really do think its interesting seeing this aspect of mainstream horror that's the monster as therapy or at least a carpie diem type thing. I'm not sure how to feel about it on one hand I do like stuff like Vamp and What We Do in the Shadows but at the same time

The problem with comparing Elon Musk to Moist von Lipwig is that Moist actually invented useful things like the Postal service and the Banks the problem was that he invented the British Postal Service.

So elon how do you come up with all your ideas? I just read sci-fi strip them of any comentary and let my ketimene addled brain do the rest.
He just stole this idea from Iain M. Banks' Culture books without acknowledging what Banks tells us time and time again is the reason that the Culture is able to function as a post-scarcity society: Communism.

NGL the older I get the more I'm coming to apricate how no one gives less of a shit about star wars world building then George Lucas. But Darth Maul shouldnt be alive he died on Naboo. Your story tellers its your job to make it interesting and make it happen.

I think one way nerds don't represent the vast majority of people is seeing my one friend who gets hung up on continuity hating superman 2025 because Krypto is the wrong breed of dog and while everyone else moves one.
I feel like the idea of James Bond having a continuity is a sign that nerd culture taking over really did a number on us.
