This weekend, the Kenyon community honors the incomparable Tom Stamp—historian, storyteller, and keeper of Kenyon’s soul. I was lucky to call him a friend, and I’ve written a remembrance of the wit, rigor, and quiet grace that defined him and the place he loved.

Pretty as these are, it's been a terribly disappointing year for dahlias here in the midwest. Not certain what factors have made it so. Crazy wet spring coupled with crazy dry August?

Superman is out on digital but we hauled ourselves to a real theater to finally see it today. Film was fun but AMC, you’ve about lost me. Sticky, cramped seats, understaffed concessions, and THIRTY minutes of ads / trailers before the published start time. Am I done with movie theaters forever? #AMC

I just made gifts to NPR and my local PBS station and I hope you'll consider doing so too. Any amount can help these wonderful non-profits weather this difficult moment in our national politics.

There's nothing "beautiful" about a bill that takes away solar tax credits. Stop the solar repeal! Save American jobs and the planet. Congress, are you listening? #SaveSolarAccess #BernieMoreno #JonHusted #TroyBalderson #SaveSolarAccess @solarunitedneighbors

I went solar to be energy independent and save money. Congress must protect solar policies. #SaveSolarAccess #BernieMoreno #JonHusted #TroyBalderson

Best commencement speech ever? By sheer happenstance, I was in the audience the day David Foster Wallace delivered this address to the Kenyon College class of 2005. If you've never listened to it, it feels like the perfect season to do so. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCbG...

Just back from seeing the world premiere of a new play, Somerset Tavern by Daniel Mark Epstein. What a thrill to see new art being born.

It seems like every time the USPS destroys one of my magazines, the lone cover that arrives contains an unintentionally hilarious cover title. (This really happened – twice now)
