I suggest visiting their offices too. Talk about how your institution rescinded PhD offers for next year after freeze, how foreign postdoc candidates changed their minds at the last minute (not coming here), and how every $ invested in science returns from $2 to $30. Take your friends with you.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Ok scientists & those who love science 🧪: here is another exhortation. Call Congress TODAY about the freeze on NIH Council Meetings and Study Sections. Emphasize that this means NO new grants are being funded & labs will soon start to shut down and fire employees. Phone numbers are at:

As you see NIH restrictions and bans lifted now, it’s not a coincidence that happened after a big rally that got coverage all over TikTok and on Maddow.

Trump is susceptible to public pressure!

They want to do their coup in the dark.
As we’ve been saying, science must speak to the public now. 🧪
Hundreds rally at #HHS HQ in Wash DC protesting mass lay-offs, funding #freeze, cut of vital services.

Life-saving science can’t be gutted by unaccountable #ElonMusk #DOGE!

It's clear that the people who make American science happen are doing everything they can to keep making it happen in a very difficult environment

So.

It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year.

I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

I agree. It seems extremely unlikely that they are trying to get grants flowing again. One of my concerns is that they may be hoping to delay things enough that NIH will not have time to get appropriated funds issued by September 30th, the end of the fiscal year.

To me, the real question is: Why would they want to continue to delay the grants process?
