#Fragmentation in #MassSpectrometry means breaking some bonds within the molecule. If 2 molecules have the same mass, but slightly different structures, we can distinguish between them by breaking them apart. The unbroken mass is the same, but the fragments are completely different!

The importance of #AutomatedSampling in #Single-cellAnalysis
(Data generation: A sampling probe touches down on the single cells one by one, cell material is detected.)
Automated: evenly distributed peaks, similar peak heights
Manual: randomly distributed peaks, variable peak heights

Have you ever considered modeling a #MassSpectrometryImaging experiment with students? Here is a way to do it
-Print the outline of a tissue slice on paper
-Treat the papers with phenolphthalein in certain areas
-Reveal the shapes with Na2CO3 solution
Yay, you’ve made your first image!

Wondering if your #MammalianCellCulture looks OK? Take a look at this photo! On the left side, the cells are detached and aggregated; they are sick, or even worse, dead. On the right side, they look like tiny spindles, which is a good sign! Happy culturing! #SciCommUU25

Each cell is a little factory. If we set this factory on fire (e.g. the cell is cancerous), the smoke it emits (the metabolites it excretes) will change completely. How would you identify the factories on fire? By measuring the emitted smoke altogether, or going from factory to factory? #SciCommUU25
