What if insulin—long used to prevent highs—could also protect against dangerous lows?

So grateful to have been part of the team that engineered an ultra-stable, fused insulin + glucagon protein! If you have a moment, I’d love for you to take a peek at our article: pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/...
Ultrastable Insulin-Glucagon Fusion Protein Exploits an Endogenous Hepatic Switch to Mitigate Hypoglycemic Risk
The risk of hypoglycemia and its serious medical sequelae restrict insulin replacement therapy for diabetes mellitus. Such adverse clinical impact has motivated development of diverse glucose-responsi...

The key statistic is 94%. That's the amount of solar, batteries & wind capacity installed on the grid in 2024. This has been the picture for several years in a row. The grid is building out new renewable capacity MUCH faster than fossil fuel. 🧪🔌💡☀️💨🔋 seia.org/blog/we-need...

🧠👶 Why can’t we remember being babies?

New brain scans show infants do store memories – but the brain later loses access to them.

Infantile amnesia is about forgetting, not failing to form memories.

This octopus is a sucker for jellies 🐙✨️

The seven-armed octopus, Haliphron atlanticus, has only been observed by MBARI’s ROVs three times in more than three decades. This one was holding the bell of an egg-yolk jellyfish in its arms—perhaps using its meal for defense or to help catch more prey.

Going sends a message.

Not going also sends a message.

It's not self-serving for scientists to protest the war on science. Millions of people depend on us.

A huge thank you to the early career scientists who are leading this!
