How did Kamala Harris lose to the most unpopular US president on record?

Winning wasn’t Harris’s primary concern; winning without the left and anti-war movement was.

Antivaxx and libertarianism are the same--they can exist only when the majority of the population buys in to what it takes to live in a society, allowing the minority to think they are outsiders thriving on their own exceptionalism.
I've never seen it so well put before.

Despite failing COVID and presiding over 400K deaths, Trump signed the most generous expansion of the safety net in a generation (thanks to Democrats).

When the Democrats took over, tho, they decided to normalize the crisis (800K died) and let those programs expire as inflation was setting in. /1
Democrats lost to Trump twice and both times the message has been “do NOT focus on why this happened, there is NOTHING to be learned here”
Biden made a selfish, terrible choice to run again and it screwed Dems and we are done with him now

relitigating it in the national press is pointless and can only serve to further hurt Dems in a time they desperately need to be focused on Trump

stop being bad at tactics I beg of you people

It was a statement all right, but that statement had nothing to do with basketball. Glad the NBA (they directly control the W) and media (like you) got what you wanted.
Saturday was not just about Caitlin Clark’s shooting, or her playmaking.

It was also about how the Fever’s new weapons clicked in their first game of consequence.

Saturday was a 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩.

Democrats in Maryland decided not to pass legislation to ban Maryland sheriffs from joining ICE's 287(g) program, which expands the federal agency's reach.

Advocates were calling for a ban as Republican sheriffs are rushing to join the program. boltsmag.org/marylan...
“A Betrayal in Slow Motion”: Maryland Democrats Forgo Banning ICE Contracts
Maryland’s GOP sheriffs are rushing to join the 287(g) program and expand ICE’s reach, and a push to halt them failed in the Senate. Democrats said they worry about Trump’s threats.

NYTimes citing StopAntisemitism is no different than if they had cited the KKK as a civil rights org. Truly sickening they’re legitimizing this hate group.

@marcatracy.bsky.social do you even know the background of this group beyond your cursory description of their funders?
I'm embarrassed for the New York Times that they published this piece on Ms. Rachel, in which they cite a ridiculous anonymous righwing website Stopantisemitism while indulging the mad, mad claim she may be funded by Hamas (!).

This should clarify that the so-called Abundance Movement is just the same-ol neoliberalism that delivered us to Trump. The state laws they're trying to block are consumer protection laws, guaranteeing everyone pays the same price, and laws that protect children from AI on social media.

Why The Fuck Are Democrats Helping Build MAGA’s Censorship Machine With KOSA?
The Trump administration is methodically implementing every element of Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 censorship playbook, and Democratic leadership's response is… to help them? Earlier today, Chuck Schumer and Richard Blumenthal joined MAGA Republicans to reintroduce the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) — a bill that Heritage itself has proudly proclaimed as central to its strategy of censoring progressive content around LGBTQ issues and abortion.

Btw my motivation here is that I want voters to be absolved. They didn’t need insider information or a private fundraiser to think the idea of 86yo Biden as president made little sense. This wasn’t about a lack of evidence. It was about a self interested refusal to hear/act

The Dems saw that David Hogg was anti-gerontocracy and said his PAC might primary currently seated Dems (something a majority of Dem voters agree on rn) and they said "Fuck off forever" almost immediately, and got rid of him in a way almost custom designed to lose voters and empower the right lol.

The DNC will never learn. Endlessly corrupt and stupid. They'll be up against a pockmarked, bloodstained wall, staring down a GOP firing squad, adamant that their "friends on the other side of the aisle" will "come to their senses" and make things right even as the triggers are pulled.
The credentials committee of the Democratic National Committee voted on Monday to void the results of the internal party vote that made David Hogg a party vice chair, ruling that the election had not followed proper parliamentary procedures.

Any time a Democrat blames the process for not being able to get anything done, or talks about checks and balances or integrity of institutions, etc., know that they are lying their asses off.

Weird how a parliamentarian isn't a problem for something that clearly should fail the budget reconciliation process. It's almost as if the VP presides over the Senate per the Constitution, and Vance will rule this acceptable.

So we can pass BS for AI companies, but can't raise the minimum wage.
This is insane. Republicans have inserted language into the budget reconciliation bill that would ban states from regulating AI in any capacity for 10 years.

you primary EVERY democrat (if possible) or more likely just primary as many as you can is because there is faction with an iron grip on leadership that needs to be displaced and you don't know who owes them what favors and need to put the fear of god into EVERYONE about the need for change
reminder that lynch is the elitist prick who yelled at one of his own constituents that he decides what’s important
House Dem Oversight story mostly a farce now. Connolly hasn't said when he'll go so Ds defer on any Qs about replacing him. Non-AOC young Dems keep campaigning (Garcia, Crockett) but the math says Lynch wins.

In meantime, the face of Dem Oversight is an old, ailing man who can't do media hits.

The worsening conditions in Gaza under the Trump administration raise the obvious question of whether pro-Palestine voters and groups who sat out the election feel even a tinge of regret. Mostly, no.

The DNC’s reliance on increasingly bigoted voices who have ties to the worst thinking in politics and society is only underlining why liberal and centrist Democrats cannot win an election to save their life or to save democracy. These people must be removed from any sort of power.

Weird how the Carvilles of the Democratic Party have zero problems with progressive incumbents being primaried, as is the case for Philadelphia's DA (pictured and also covered).

But they raise hell if you suggest their corporate stooges currently rolling over for Trump get a primary challenger.

I would not bet on this at all. I hope I'm wrong, but neoliberals like Carney who talk about balanced budgets, cutting spending, and fiscal conservatism fight to marginalize progressives, not listen to them.
Credit to Trudeau too for stepping aside. That was a huge factor, second only to Trump.

I do hope Carney remembers that he won in large measure because progressives voted strategically against Poilievre and because of Trump, not because the Liberals have the best policies.

Wikipedia's "failure nodes" (plain english: inaccuracies) were well documented on the talk page, and it cited it's work so it could lead you to more information.

There is *zero* transparency in AI and it cites nothing, stealing the actual information where the work was put into.
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes
