Build more social housing. End homelessness.

Over the years we've seen how fiddling with targets and putting faith in market forces leads to nowhere near enough social rent homes being built. The stark and shameful truth of this is record levels of homelessness.
Ministers confirm plans to reduce London’s affordable housing quotas
Developers will qualify for fast-track planning status if they include 20% affordable housing instead of current 35% target

We’re calling on the UK Government to restore housing benefit so that it matches the true cost of rent.

Your MP has the power to help make this happen.

Disabled people are already more likely to need a food bank, and a fifth have had to turn to a food bank in just the last month.

Things don't have to be this way. Together we can urge the government to rethink this plan.

Powerful article for @lbc.co.uk from disabled mum of 3.
Keir Starmer & Rachel Reeves need to read this before pressing ahead with huge cuts to disability benefits.

Good news - the Government have extended the move on period for newly granted refugees from 28 to 56 days. In our world, this is fantastic news, giving a fighting chance that people can avoid homelessness. Hooray!

After getting a positive asylum decision, refugees only get 28 days before they have to leave their Home Office accommodation. It's not long enough to find somewhere else and so refugees end up homeless. As the new government starts making more decisions, they need to give people at least 56 days.

Meanwhile the rough sleeping 'snapshot' shows the number rough sleeping climbing dramatically again post-pandemic (where 'Everyone In' helped reduce the numbers sleeping rough substantially).

Devastating - so many sleeping rough always terrible, but particularly when temperatures plummet.

NEW: The number of homeless children living in temporary accommodation in England has risen AGAIN to 159,380 - up 15% in a year.

Transient lives in temporary homes, defined by uncertainly, doing untold damage.

It is a scandal. But it’s not new. And it’s not going away.
