Just imagining how much better it would be if ALL news stories about vaccine-preventable illnesses were illustrated with pictures of people with the disease, not pictures of needle injections. If you must show something that people will find scary & unpleasant, make it the disease, not the cure.
I'm so tired of measles.

I'm also tired of people using needle shots on stories like this.

Show what measles looks like.

I don’t worry so much about the people that Nigel Farage doesn’t want to live next door to. I’m more concerned about the people who may have to live next door to him.

This from @stephenkb.bsky.social cuts to the heart of the matter. Does the government not understand how toxic this argument is? Do they think they can somehow weaponise it? The last governments at least had the merit not of making this kind of foul claim.

Coverage of the refugee proposals demonstrates why we have such a broken political system. Endless focus on left-wing anger and right-wing support. Basically nothing on whether the reforms will work. They will not, which is why we'll still be here having the same debate in three years.

yeah my natural condition would be to have died as a toddler due to a severe asthma attack that hospitalized me for a WEEK

living in harmony with nature would be great. we should respect, listen to & learn from indigenous folk ways.

but living the life “nature” prescribed for me? no thanks
the great self-liberation of humanity is precisely our self-liberation from the shackles of our natural condition--yes, including our natural biology. fuck that noise

This piece was greenlit and then killed by a British newspaper, so I’ve decided to publish myself instead.

We should stop the boats because it's dangerous, and we should stop the scapegoating of immigrants because it's wrong and cruel.

Controlled migration is good for the country, helps build our economy and diversity strengthens our communities. (1/6) 🧵

Turns out that after my months long campaign to get everyone I even vaguely know to get vaccinated for Hep A - I haven't actually even got Hep A. It was a misdiagnosis.

Which is somewhat frustrating.

I have finally unpacked the final piece of luggage from the trip we got back from 5 months ago.

In hindsight this perhaps should have been a clue that I was unwell and going to need the barrage of tests I'm going for tomorrow.

My favourite Oxford Comma story:

At Mandela's funeral, Obama & Raoul Castro met for the first time, shook hands. Meanwhile in UK Queen gave legal assent to same-sex marriage bill.

News agency tweeted:"In today's news, Obama-Castro handshake and gay marriage". Cue "That escalated quickly" memes.

To be honest, this was just an enraging. Hearing people say that implementing a large-scale is EPR is always difficult. So difficult that nobody has though, hey maybe we shouldn't do elective work for a couple of weeks? Maybe?

No it'll be fine like it literally never has been.
A bit more on topic here.
