Isn’t it amazing the way life can seem too short, and intrinsically magical, yet at the same time feel like a long, uphill road, potholed with fuckwits?

This is especially true if the backdrop is Cleethorpes or Rotherham.

Who doesn’t love an ancient, weathered door to a secret walled garden? I walk past these fine examples most evenings. One of my favourite pastimes is looking on Rightmove to see if the beautiful houses they belong to are for sale. Not that we could afford them.

Very speedy delivery from the talented Tom Cox @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social

Due to Tom’s publisher going into administration after months of not paying their authors, Tom has lost income and also has a house full of unsold books:

I love this. It reminds me of the random topics covered in messages from my mum.
POND WATER (a text from my mum, received by me today, that I have turned into a poem)
Bridget was round my neck
All night
I thought
It was affection
But I see from the weather
That she was just
Sucking the warmth from me
She smelled
Just like pond water
We have the plumber
Coming
To fit a new shower

This was taken in 2016. Shipley (rear) died a year later. His brother Ralph (front) made it to 20, following him to the Great Beyond in 2021. I scattered his ashes on this exact spot. Which is mainly to say "Have a read of this thing I wrote": tomcox.substack.com/p/the-lion-t...
