Day 47 - Top Gun: Maverick

A lot more focused and personal to Maverick, the sequel recaptures pretty much every aspect of the original with a really clever means of character growth being overcome through the daunting mission they can't quite seem to train for. Excellent. 8/10

Day 46 - Top Gun

This is a quintessential feel-good military film, though I very much enjoy the themes of responsibility and duty. It's shot well, has great performances, and is very much a classic. The second half is where it hits its true stride though. There's a little bit of a disconnect. 7/10

Day 45 - Pixels

This isn't the worst movie ever made but it's no hidden gem either. It simply... "is." Nothing too exciting, boring, challenging, or dreadful. Just mediocre Adam Sandler fun. 5/10

Day 44 - Sinners

It cannot be overstated how good this film is. Music is so well utilized that I was literally tensing up in my seat, praying that it wouldn't stop. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with so much texture in my life, nor do I ever expect to again. Phenomenal. 10/10

Day 43 - Black is King

Not so much a film but a visual album, it's overall entertaining. While I recommend treating it as an album going in, it doesn't do too much for the coherent structure of it beyond the themes of self discovery and reclamation. Good music is good music though. 6/10

Day 42 - Mickey 17

Very coy trailers gave me a somewhat different impression on what the film would ultimately. Phenomenal performances paired with the tense, almost Looney Toones dystopian elements make for a lot of fun. Only issues were pacing and Mark. I love the guy but he cant do silly. 7/10

Consider this Day 41! - A Minecraft Movie

While fun to watch in a theater with some friends, the film kind of loses itself. I can forgive the loosey-goosey writing, but I can't forgive its plug n' play nature. The message doesn't quite serve Minecraft or creativity as you'd expect. Knife. 3/10

Catchup is coming. Graduated. Break is ending. Etc.

Day 40 - The Polar Express

Far more abstract than your typical Christmas film, this film is not quite beautiful, but... ornate? Tom Hanks really outshines Tom Hanks in this film, though Tom Hanks makes a good case for best performance too. After some thought, I think my favorite was Tom Hanks. 7/10

Day 39 - Velocipastor

A deceptively amateur and hilarious movie. Velocipastor is a triumphant roar in the silent world of comedy. That, and it's just a silly, goofy lil' spoof horror-comedy... 7/10

Day 38 - Uncharted

I don't really care what other people think about this movie, it's so fun. Mark and Tom are actually synergistic, more than I would've thought. It's has good action, a somewhat compelling mystery, and despite the quality of it as an "adaptation" it's enjoyable. 7/10

Day 37 - Palm Springs

A cute take on the time-loop formula. The film manages to stand out by being very particular about the limitations of what the characters can do within the loop and where they can go. The setting is extremely restrictive, and it's to the narrative's benefit. 7/10

Day 36 - Dead Poet's Society

My favorite Robin Williams performance, and one of the most tragic, moving films I've ever seen. No notes or comments. Phenomenal. O Captain! My Captain! 10/10

Day 35 - Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio

A beautiful adaptation and a surprising musical. It's a humanistic story that's more concerned with Pinocchio's learned understanding of the world rather than what's thrust upon him. If nothing else, watch for Ewan McGregor as Sebastian J. Cricket. 10/10

Day 34 - Moana 2

More disconnected that the first film. The music is a lot less memorable, and a lot of side character development feels really rushed and often pointless. The last third is the most cohesive and thus enjoyable. Probably the least tampered with from what was a show. Still fun! 6/10

Day 33 - Moana

Beautiful music with a no-princess inflection on the Disney formula. I love the message of being true to yourself, letting what drives you drive you. Disney loves their story-book openings, and hopefully this film serves as an just opening for Moana 2. Review coming for day 34. 8/10

Day 32 (finally!) - Grown Ups 2

This one is a lot more of a spectacle then the first film, though just as funny, if not a little less... meaningful? I'm not sure if its message came across as strong as the first one, but it's finds a way to still maintain that endearing quality. 7/10

Day 31 (oopsie) - Grown Ups

It's like a fever dream to watch a movie that doesn't get made for theaters anymore. This movie is funny, charming, and heartwarming, with all the Adam Sandler-osity you'd expect and more. 8/10

Day 30 - The Black Phone

Such a chilling interpretation of psychotic perverted killer. Ethan Hawk's performance is sharp, moldy, and terrifying, and the kids doing a great job too! It's not the most horrifying film of its kind, but its got... sauce? 9/10

Day 29 (whoops again!) - The Greatest Showman

The music really carries this one. The character writing is excellent, but their interactions and reactions are a bit jittery and inconsistent. Again, not bashing the performances, but the writing. Overall, it's the "greatest!" (small g) 7/10

Day 28 - Quiz Lady

Such a cute little concept of a comedy. The characterization is a bit overdone, but I think that's kind of the point. Though, it doesn't come across as charming as a good rom-com might. Give it a watch during a lunch break or over the weekend when you're bored on the counch. 6/10

Day 27 (on time!) - Disenchanted

I was expecting a bit more from, though after sitting with it, I can honestly say that upon reflection, it's about as good as the first one. The "evil step-mother" twist is very endearing and interesting, but like it's predecessor, doesn't hold all the water. 6/10

Day 26 (late... whoops!) - Enchanted

It's cute to see Disney spin the very tropes they popularized into something different and uniquely charming. Sweet and silly are the best two words to describe this movie. 6/10
