Crazy day; stopped from going ocean sailing as planned by not enough water in the inlet. Then a motor problem halfway across the sound. Then a challenging docking situation in a marina. But Thanksgiving chili was delicious.

We spent our first decently warm day since mid-October exploring the island. Took Portia to the beach, stopped in a few pubs, ran into the same lovely group with 4 dogs 3 times (they were chill about the cat, tho).

A beautiful day got quite sporty later on. Had to tackle the channel for the first time in the dark with 20kt winds. Fortunately, it was a better channel. Unfortunately, this place is mostly closed for the season!

This is where I woke up this morning: Shallowbag Bay, Roanoke Island, NC.
Super sketchy and poorly marked channel led to us going aground briefly. We had slowed as the depth reduced, so it was easy enough to back out. Gingerly picked out the depth by guesswork and got in safely.

The journey towards endless summer resumes today. Finally. We set off without incident and even got some sailing in. The damp, windy cold is relentless, but we'll be plugged in and warming up again soon.
