Satellite look of Hurricane #Melissa. It looks really beautiful from above, but it is absolutely awful below there, with wildly dangerous winds that could ravage any land area it hits.

Unfortunately #Jamaica seems to be the one taking all of this.

#Jamaica has only seen a landfall by a category 4 hurricane once, Gilbert in 1988 (130mph), with some other hurricanes making close passes. If the forecast for #Melissa is right (140mph or stronger), it will be the strongest landfall for Jamaica since tropical cyclone records began in the 1850s.

Tropical Storm #Melissa became the first Caribbean storm of 2025.

A hurricane watch was issued for parts of #Haiti and a tropical storm watch was issued for #Jamaica. Interests elsewhere in #Hispaniola and eastern #Cuba should monitor the storm.
