I've been thinking about the NSF and what we (researchers) can do to help. Last Thursday I reached out to a program manager regarding a panel which I had declined, and it turns out they really needed more panelists. So I am reviewing for them this week.
Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

Happy to share the latest work from the group, where we show a technique to amplify signals in microbial fuel cells. This can help make a new type of living bacterial device more sensitive and practical. Read the article here: www.cell.com/device/fullt...
Amplification of enzymatic and microbial fuel cells using organic electrochemical transistors
We demonstrate a simple and versatile approach to living microbial devices by coupling OECTs to microbial fuel cells. The OECTs serve to amplify currents and improve signal quality. The relative power...

Enjoyed hosting Dr Yagmur Yegin today at Rice. She gave an interesting talk in my polymers course on polymers for food safety. She even shared some natural silk cacoons that can be extracted and used in food coatings which I might explore for bacterial encapsulation.

Just called Rep Al Green, Sen Cruz, and Sen Cornyns office
It is very easy to call your representatives’ offices. They have to log your calls and the call numbers are meaningful. You don’t even have to try to convince anyone; just call and tell them your concerns. They are there to represent you. Let them know what that means. www.usa.gov/elected-offi...
