When DCist was shut down, it had 70,000+ subscribers.
The 51st is proud to carry forward the spirit with which DCist served our city.

But we can’t stop thinking about how most of those subscribers — our neighbors and friends — are just no longer receiving the kind of local news they signed up for.

We want to find the people who loved DCist — but don’t yet know The 51st exists.

They walk among us: Our neighbors, colleagues, and friends. Do you know any of them personally, and can you help reunite them with local journalism? If you do it, you could earn rewards via our new referral program.

Since RFK Jr. is lying to Congress again, it’s worth remembering that he has been a dishonest, entitled, sadistic piece of garbage his entire miserable life.

Holy shit. I’ve heard absolutely horrible things about Hank Ketcham but never dove into it. That said I do remember the strip where he drew a black kid as a racist sambo character during the mid 70s so… this tracks

This thread is absolutely worth a read b/c this dude was a fucking TURBO GHOUL.

the 80s and 90s were such an amazing era for little kids watching movies that they absolutely should not have been watching
Julia Roberts may have received a Best Actress nomination for PRETTY WOMAN at the 1991 Academy Awards but the real accolade we need to talk about is how the same performance won her the award for Favorite Movie Actress that same year at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

Washington, D.C., filed a lawsuit challenging the Trump administration's "brazen usurpation" of the city's authority by trying to take control of its police. They argue it exceeds President Trump's authority under the Home Rule Act, which granted D.C. its degree of self-government. nyti.ms/3HDCNT7
