Technically correct is the best kind of correct.
Indeed - the "warrior ethos" isn't slapping your bros on the back when they put marks on the scoreboard. It's a recognition of the seriousness and gravity of the business of waging war, and a demand that others treat it with such solemnity.
For the record, this is the point of having a “warrior” culture, to having notions of honor attached to the military profession is so that dishonor can is feared. Military service is honored but if you fail to uphold standards—including refusing illegal orders—you must be dishonored.
This is also why I hate hearing “it’s hard to disobey orders.” It’s hard to endure danger. It’s hard to not give up information. That’s precisely why there must be no ground given on the matter—when you bear arms, you take on that responsibility and must endure the consequences if you fail.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

Good thread on why it is good - nay, necessary! - to study and understand cultures that differ from our own. You don't have to like or agree with other ways of organizing and living - but you cannot ignore *that* there are different ways! And the differences matter!
My infantry Bn had a really hard time parsing the gender and sexuality issues of Southern Helmand.

When people say, "you wouldn't want a 'purple haired gender studies major' in the Marines" I reply "YES we desperately needed them!" We had teams of anthropologists who published studies for us.

I'm honestly surprised by the politics here - the GOP must be genuinely concerned about the size of the forthcoming protests if they've opted to stipulate that they're going to be big *but only because Soros is paying for it* (i.e., illegitimate) rather than ignoring outright.
@kenwhite.bsky.social I'm so sorry.

Cruz: I've introduced legislation that would allow DOJ to use RICO to prosecute the money that is funding these No Kings Protests

Most men with nothing would rather protect the possibility of becoming rich than face the reality of being poor.

I have come to the conclusion that one useless man is called a disgrace; that two are called a law firm; and that three or more become a Congress.

I'm neither a sociologist, psychologist, nor anthropologist - but I wonder how much of the present moment stems from the irreconcilable difference between animalian instincts for survival and the relative absence of existential threats to that very survival.

Humility is, perhaps, the most essential attribute of effective leadership as it continuously reminds the leader that his or her decisions can never be objectively impeccable.

Under what circumstances - if any - are you morally compelled to use power you legally wield?
