Thinking of all the students and families applying to college, or registering for college, or attending college, who have no idea if they will have access to grants and loans. This is grotesquely destructive.

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH

My daughter is starting to look at colleges and we will be paying close attention to which schools support DEI, support trans students, and stand up to fascism and tyranny. I am sure we are not alone.

The both/and here is important—things are bad in ways that we can’t control on an individual level, and there are things we can do on an individual level to soften the blow for ourselves and our communities.
When we despair, we must have actions into which we can pour all of that energy.

My friends are starting to lose their jobs; their partners and children are losing their healthcare. The ripple effects of this destruction will be so wide ranging, I can’t even fathom. I’m planting a big garden this summer; ready to be part of my local safety net. It’s time to be all in.
