I'm giving an informal talk today about under-the-radar linguistic changes and their relationship to structural characteristics of ego networks, using Raleigh corpus data. Let me know if you're interested in talking about language and networks! #linguistics

A goal of the Raleigh Language Study is to consider structural characteristics of egonets as predictors of linguistic variation. Eventually we'll use the data for setting parameters for simulations, but first I'm looking forward to doing descriptive network analysis, rare in our field but needed.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the long-term value of variationist sociolinguistic work (thoughts welcome). Possibly the most valuable thing about a new phase of the Raleigh Language Study is the ego network data, which have already surprised me. Let me know if you want to discuss methods!
