This could be a lyric from, like, a really heavy doom metal band.

just had the immense pleasure of learning that the yiddish word for “quotation marks” literally means LITTLE GOOSE FEET (gendznfislekh, גענדנפֿיסלעך)
I'm in Berlin, and we just had a neighborhood get evacuated overnight because they found a bomb in the Spree. Happens a couple times a year when digging for construction, but "in the river" was new to me.
I will beat down the doors of the movie theater for this.

If I ever miss a question with a 99% get rate on a day I actually remember to play, i.e., didn't forfeit, then I will post here so you can dunk on me. I'll have earned it, and I'll take it in stride.
I appreciate when I visit the Internet and people make thoughtful points. Thanks for that.

This shit, and the government's ongoing failure to fix it once and for all, is a huge part of the reason I haven't moved back to the USA.
Wouldn't that just be "3825"? ;)
I submit a vote for rugby. There are a couple international tournaments in the dark months.
Wow. I must be out of it. That really is the same guy I (a non-statistician and non-political professional) used to respect for considered, impressively accurate analyses and forecasts of elections? He just sounds like some jackwagon there.
(That jazz clubs are attracting young audiences. Good jazz is great. I haven't read the whole thing yet, though, so apologies if the writer drops a bombshell that I seem to have endorsed by sharing.)
Been watching from Germany, and you rule. I hope you keep kicking ass.
I don't know you, but a mutual reposted this, and you sound like someone I'd WANT to see on a game show.
We have a challenger for "We invited the strippers, JFK and Stalin."

I coulda told 'em that any day of my whole time in the (otherwise very good, in my hometown) public school system.
Yeah, sure, I'd have volunteered to get up at 4:30 AM to hit the track. In December. After probably having not gotten to sleep until after 1.

I would have had a damn breakdown.
High school already started at 7:25 for me. 6:30 when I was taking advanced-placement physics. (I dropped that class.)
Spotted this in the New York Times ('s sports partner/subsidiary[?] site) and immediately recalled this thread. An example in the wild:

Wilhelm Röntgen discovered X-rays #OTD in 1895 when he noticed that emanations from a Crookes tube caused a platino-barium screen to fluoresce. The rays exposed photographic plates but were blocked by bone and metal.

This early plate shows his wife's hand. 🧪 ⚛️
