I loved Travis Baldree’s new book, Brigands & Breadknives!

wordhoarder.wordpress.com/2025/11/04/r...

Did I relate a little too much to the character of Fern, a foul-mouthed writer who’s been a bookseller a little too long? Maybe...

Fans of Legends & Lattes & #cozyfantasy will love this!

It's hard to write about happy characters, so Viv & Tandri take a backseat to a foul-mouthed Rattkin bookseller, a stoic elf warrior & an absolute lunatic chaos goblin. The results are spectacular!

Travis Baldree's Brigands & Breadknives is out today! 🔪🔪🔪

Given the popularity of #dragonrider books, I went back to re-read Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern after many years, & was a little taken aback by the casual violence towards women. Was curious why it hit differently than in #FourthWing books.

Rereading The Dragonriders of Pern
Revisiting a series you enjoyed 20 years earlier is not always a pleasant experience.

Writing can be a lonely business, but it doesn't have to be! Even the best of us go through fallow periods, self-doubt, multiple abandoned drafts. The trick is not to let any of that derail you entirely, or to believe that other writers are your competition. They're your colleagues & your champions.
What sort of message do you hope people take away from your most recent book/wip? #WritingPrompt

Began Sarah Beth Durst’s next book last night: The Faraway Inn (March ‘26). Pretty great so far! My 3rd Durst book this year: safe to say she’s a new favorite!

I reviewed Travis Baldree’s Brigands & Breadknives: “Baldree, with his empathy, compassion, and ability to evoke wonder, turns Fern’s dark night of the soul into a warm tale of found family, adventure, and fresh horizons.”

Review: Brigands & Breadknives by Travis Baldree
Brigands & Breadknives takes up a few years after Legends & Lattes, but this time the protagonist is Fern, the rattkin bookseller we met in the prequel novel, Bookshops & Bonedust. Fern…

I cut and stacked the last of the wood (on my property) from trees downed by hurricane Heléne this weekend. My small milestone that feels significant.

This one is rapidly growing on me. The Police, Reggatta de Blanc (1979). Before my time in terms of being aware of new music, but full of delicious bass lines & their patented “white reggae.”

Impulse buy because this was one of those albums that was always being played in my school days, but I never owned a copy. UB40, Labour of Love (1983). Instant nostalgia overload!

A romance writer on my LinkedIn feed is crowing about how much easier it is to write 1-minute scripts than 300-page novels. I suspect the shorts she’s scripting are made with AI. Doesn’t seem a great career move to train the machine…

Spring of 1992 I first heard Tori Amos in a friend's gaff. I dubbed a copy & listened to her for months.

Today, I got my hands on a vinyl copy of Little Earthquakes & it’s like listening to the album for the first time.
