On the web since 1996. I self-host photoprism, immich and audiobookshelf. I also try to write a blog post every day.
My mental health took a hit over the last week. All due to whatsapp related things.

I dream of the day when they (Americans) stop complaining about DT because they have finally kicked him out of power

In reality it makes it easier to park on the pavement. This is superficial, and so slow. It shouldn’t take years. It should take weeks. In summer the bike lane along the lake is unusable because of parked cars and their walking passengers. Reduce the need for cars in the first place.

The Far Right want to replace human journalists with AI, because AI doesn't have a moral conscience so it spreads disinformation with ease. Camera operator jobs vanished a decade or two ago.
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

I am thinking of switching from Ubuntu to NixOS either on a Pi, or a laptop. A few months ago I got Nix to run on a Pi so I could succeed again.

Next year, or the year after, we will be able to replace the battery, and then replacing mobile phones will be less frequent.

During yesterday's bike ride, at dawn, I noticed that grass near Grens was coated in a thin layer of frost. I also noticed that when we cycled in some places it felt much cooler than in others. I also felt the paradox of thicker gloves, and colder fingers. It seems that the thin gloves are more effective. I noticed the frost because of a conversation people ahead of me were having.

Lib Dem Leader @eddavey.libdems.org.uk:

"A great British institution is under attack from a foreign government. President Trump is trying to destroy our BBC... Trump has undermined press freedom in America. Now he's trying to do the same here, disgracefully egged on by the leader of Reform."

The BBC is always under attack. But this time it has been sabotaged by conservative ideologues deep within its heart. Is it time for the culture secretary to step in?

Yesterday and Today Americans discover the concept of juxtaposition. Soviet film editors knew about it for a century, but for Americans the concept is brand new. ;-) (Humour and mischief).

For context, I am reading Unleashing Demons, by Craig Oliver, where tabloids spread disinformation multiple times. Disinformation such as "The queen supports Brexit" among others.
What should be highlighted is that this is a Tory strategy to spread disinformation. They used it for Brexit and more. If I was to argue anything it is that the Tory Party should leave the BBC alone, and let it correct to being more neutral than it has been. This is a Murdoch media style manip.

Without the BBC in England, France Télévision in France, RTS in French speaking parts of Switzerland, SRF in German parts, RSI in Italian parts, RAI in Italy, RTS in Serbia, ORF in Austria,SVT in Sweden, TVE in Spain etc, democracy will be at risk. Free and neutral news is essential for democracy.

The more I use Whatsapp, in the Post pandemic age, the more toxic I find it. Last night I wrote something innocent. I wrote about rotisserie chicken and the temptation to have some before drinks. So far, so normal. Someone I never met, and never talked with, in person, put a crying emoji and I don't remember whether there was a comment or not.

Why does it have to be with 132 partners. I would agree if it was one to five partners, but not 132.

I can accept, and block them with pihole anyway. ;-)

I never listen to LBC because they spread bullshi* by fascists, without taking their Fourth Estate role seriously enough. F often spreads rubbish opinions as fact, and LBC amplifies those views, instead of providing adequate analysis. LBC is as bad as The Independent, for stirring up controversy.

Good news: more than 50% of the world’s economies have seen carbon emissions from fossil fuel power generation peaking. And with the speed of change in the electricity sector many more will join this growing list in coming years.

I hate Whatscrapp but I found a good IRL community there. If I refuse to use WhatsCrapp I isolate myself from that community. I can't tell if one idiot is actually sad at the thought of people eating chickens, or comical. Either way it made me think "I wanna leave this community".

Batteries are coming to Europe. Earlier this year Europe’s largest battery storage site went live at Blackhillock, Scotland.

The facility has a capacity of 300MW/600MWh.

Much larger batteries are under development: A huge 1 GW / 4 GWh system is being constructed in Jänschwalde, Germany.

I've become cynical. I don't trust people to be genuine anymore. I expect a phishing scam or similar now. Especially if people want to connect via Whatscrapp. I hate that there are so many exploitative, awful people, that I question motives.
I'm male, but after three or four bad experiences I have second thoughts about adding someone on whatscrapp. I used to trust, without issues, but between 21st century women of the night, and stalkerish people I'm more cautious. I don't trust people from social media anymore.
