Your church is reading Paul's instructions about women, slavery, and head coverings.
Someone asks: "Do we follow all of this or none of it? How do we decide?"
The room goes quiet. 1/5

Your church is splitting over who gets to decide doctrine.
Traditionalists say you're abandoning apostolic teaching. Progressives claim that the Spirit is leading us into a new truth. This exact fight broke out in 1054. We never fixed it. 1/x

I've written a long-form piece examining +Sarah's impossible inheritance: the demographic collapse, safeguarding failures, global schism, and why three previous Archbishops all failed in remarkably similar ways.
It's theology, history, and institutional tragedy. open.substack.com/pub/apilgrim...

Delighted to see +Sarah as the next Archbishop of Canterbury. She's a pastoral, thoughtful, intelligent, and wise person who will drive forward much-needed change in #theCofE. Exciting times!

Simone Weil loved Christ with burning intensity. She had mystical experiences where "Christ himself came down and took possession of me." Yet she refused baptism and died outside the church at 34. Her story asks hard questions. 🧵 1/?

"Is the Holy Spirit God's ghost?"
An 8-year-old asked me this after hearing someone pray "in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost."
Turns out adults aren't much clearer about the most mysterious person of the Trinity.

Prayers for the passing of Pope Francis and a good and faithful servant as his successor. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

It blows my mind that there are a dozen or more bishops who are just not at #Synod. Or at least they aren't voting. #CofEpeeps

Not usual for a bill to come out of committee worse than it went in, but the #AssistedDyingBill is an absolute mess. It needs to go into the long grass until it can be done properly.

Exciting times! Our @paulheatonsolo.bsky.social tickets arrived today. Less exciting is that we went to this gig pre-xmas. It was a superb night, though!

I'm not sure a 90 year old man quitting leading services is as big a news story as the BBC thinks it is.

Being atheist is ok.

Being atheist & shaming religion is not ok.

Being a Christian is ok.

Being homophonic, misogynistic, racist or hateful in the name of Christianity is not ok.

Being a reindeer is ok.

Bullying & excluding another reindeer because they have a shiny red nose is not ok.

This will be regretted very quickly. I'm hoping for some amendments in the Lords now.

There's no date on this ridiculous petition. So it'll be a really short debate as a minister confirms there will indeed be another general election. In 4.5 years.
