Mo Yan or Yan Mo?
How about westerners spell Asian names with a comma like in library databases: Mo, Yan. That way I'd know immediately which one is the family name and it'll be in the order that East Asians prefer.
Currently, we put Chinese family names first but Japanese ones last: Hayao Miyazaki.

That barbarian age of the 19th century, when countless men, women and children were sacrificed to the dread god named Industry.

An AI-generated song tops the country music charts. I assume it doesn't sound anything like this.

"With my hypnotic powers I had rendered myself invisible." The Shadow

Just one person bothered to listen to this little parody of chamber music. Oh well.

21 years ago, my Track Suite record gained 17,000 listeners. My 'career' has reached an end point.

I wish black metal was metal played by black people. You know, with a touch of funk and such.

"Fair is foul and foul is fair,
hover through the fog and filthy air."

The only bit of Shakespeare I remember. For some reason my brain shuts down as soon as someone starts declaiming him.

But this bit would go well with a grime beat.

I read John Shirley back in the early 90s. A good one of the cyberpunk pack. Helsinki's bookshops deteriorated after that, so I never saw his books again.
A horror-sf story by me, not terribly long, newly at The Freezine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. It's a reprint but from not so long ago and it seems so very topical. Freeeeeeeee!
Empty Bottles
by John Shirley      They should have been expecting me.       They’d received a letter, posted a month earlier. It contained a note from M...

"Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"

I listen to The Shadow while drawing and numbering faces, so I usually don't go to the computer to skip ads... except this time: A certain toy company pushed a TWO HOUR ad at me. Yikes!

Finland should reverse winter and summer times. For us it's pointless to have one more hour of sunlight at night, the sun setting at midnight instead of 11 pm.
Instead, it would be nice in winter to have a sunset at 4 pm instead of 3 pm.
That's in southern Finland, of course.

Amazing webcomic. Almost infinite detail and yet they manage to publish almost two pages per week. That's nearly Japanese levels of productivity.

Oh all right, let's have just a little bit of reverb.
Designing a percussion sound on my new Korg Opsix. It's lovely.
Generally, I'm opposed to reverb and delay. They turn everything into soup when you're playing fast.

I read about a 9 year old who says "That's so AI!" when he means that it's nonsense.
When we play Scrabble, I tell my mom to skip the Google AI when she looks up words.

Science fiction always described AI as cold and clever, occasionally murderous, but always efficient.
They never dreamed of it as hallucinating mad creatures that drive people crazy.

I'm a contradictory man.
I don't even agree with myself.
Nonsense. I have strong principles.
Which I question regularly.
I accept that Ukraine has a right to defend itself.
But the war will only end when Russians turn pacifist.
And topple Putin in a bloody revolution.
Um, what?

People will quit Spotify when it's flooded with AI slop.
Or maybe not.
They already listen to pretty ghastly stuff made by professionals who filter out all offensive/creative noise.
Or maybe not.
I don't know what's happening in the charts. I haven't listened to Top40 crap since the 80s.

Musk's Grokipedia thing could have gone worse: He could have programmed Grok to rewrite Wikipedia a thousand edits per second. I hope I'm not giving him ideas...

Genetically engineered babies will happen at some point. There will be some nation that does not outlaw it and people will travel there to get blond and blue-eyed children. Or something.

My kids would have chlorophyll skin, so they wouldn't starve as long as the sun shines.

Americans get upset when the government spies on Americans.
Meanwhile, the express purpose of the NSA is to spy on everyone else on this planet. And when we have colonies on the Moon, they will listen in there, as well.
